Auf einem Frachtflug von Edinburgh nach Belfast im Winter und nur wenige Minuten nach dem Start stürzt eine Shorts 360-100 der schottischen Airline Loganair auf Flug 670A in die eiskalte Nordsee. Beide Piloten kommen bei dem Unglück ums Leben - und die Ermittler stehen vor einem Rätsel. Der Cockpit-Voice-Recorder liefert den ersten wirklichen Anhaltspunkt. Nun ist es an den Experten, die mysteriöse Verbindung zwischen dem Enteisungssystem der Turboprop-Maschine, einem nächtlichen Sturm und einem katastrophalen Flammenabriss an zwei Triebwerken zu entschlüsseln.
